Weak Men and Our Times

Someone said, Weak men always want to be liked, or at least to avoid conflict, even when important principles are at stake.

A strong Christian man on the other hand wants to love, to seek the Good of the other as St. Thomas said, not necessarily always to be liked. In our time this can cause problems.

A really inwardly strong Christian man is often gentle and is not ashamed to wait on, bathe, and wipe a sick man’s ass. He tries to encourage his children to make their faith in Christ real and to give to the poor and seek the Good; but he will become a wall of resistance against disrespect, illicit drugs, and imbecilic conformity to the times. This can cause big problems. The offenders will not be amused.

He knows that a constant need for validation can make a person vulnerable to manipulation and abuse.

On the other hand, as another has said, a weak man is easily threatened by others and is quick to change himself to fit in and avoid conflict. He lacks the confidence to be his true self and instead tries to be what others want him to be. He wants to be more charming than good.

When a man is weak, he is constantly seeking validation and reassurance from others. Often his wife or children are the ones who really govern the home. He equates money with “success” and authority, and the opinions of others hold immense power and influence over his sense of self-worth and identity. SH.
