.. We would do well to be encouraging and training musicians and choirs in local chuchés. Yes, local. People, young and old, by now desire to get away from their TVs and stressful political podcasts and to become a part of something sublimely beautiful for the Lord’s sake. This will be Modern but, as Pope Benedict XIV insisted, it will be in continuity with the Sacred Tradition of the Church. It will not substitute for the past but will walk and soar with and in it. It need not be perfect, only truly good.
Isn’t it indeed time we at least caught up musically with the Anglican people who honor excellence as they honor religion; and that we Catholics get rid of our embarrassing liturgical piano kitsch?
