….will not forsake us who, compared to so many previous generations, have so little to suffer. As the Apostle says, we have not yet been called to suffer unto death. Our laments and sufferings can appear to have more to do with our own comfort, nostalgia, preferences in beautiful liturgical style, all good but comparatively mere nothings when contrasted to the true sufferings near the real Cross as seen so often in history. We are a spoiled generation, but we can change that starting now, and become like the disciples of old who when tossed out of their comfortable places into the unknown rejoiced in the Eucharist alone, whether physical or spiritual, as we perform works of mercy for those in need, beyond ourselves, and hope for brighter days, God willing. — SH
