Is Egg the most perfect food?

Yes, eggs are often called “nature’s perfect food” or “the perfect food” — and for good reason.

They come remarkably close to being a complete, standalone package of essential nutrients in a convenient, affordable, versatile form. No single food is literally perfect (dietary variety remains ideal for long-term health), but eggs rank among the top nutrient-dense options. Why Eggs Earn This Reputation

High-quality, complete protein: One large egg provides ~6g of protein with all nine essential amino acids in ideal proportions. It’s the gold standard by which other proteins are measured.

Nearly every nutrient you need: Eggs contain a little bit of almost everything — vitamins (A, B2, B12, D, E, folate), minerals (selenium, phosphorus, zinc, iron), choline (crucial for brain health; one egg supplies a significant portion of daily needs), and antioxidants like lutein and zeaxanthin (great for eye health). The yolk holds most of these goodies.

Balanced macros and low calories: About 70 calories per large egg, with healthy fats, virtually zero carbs/sugars, and high satiety (keeps you full).

Bioavailability: Nutrients in eggs are highly absorbable compared to many plant sources.

Practical perks: Cheap, shelf-stable (when refrigerated), quick to prepare, and work in countless dishes.

The EvidenceHealth sources like Healthline, BBC, and dietitians frequently highlight eggs this way. Pasture-raised or omega-3 enriched versions boost benefits further (more healthy fats and antioxidants).

Modern research largely debunks older cholesterol fears for most healthy people — moderate consumption (1–2+ per day) fits well in heart-healthy diets for many.

Caveats — No Food Is 100% Perfect

Not a complete diet: Eggs lack fiber, vitamin C, and significant carbs. Pair them with veggies, fruits, grains, etc., for balance.

Allergies/sensitivities: Some people can’t eat them.

Quality matters: Pasture-raised > conventional for nutrient density and ethics.

Comparisons: Other superfoods like liver, fatty fish, or certain greens excel in specific nutrients, but eggs win on completeness, convenience, and taste for most.

Bottom line: Eggs are as close to a “perfect” everyday food as it gets — nutrient-packed, delicious, and practical. Enjoy them boiled, scrambled, poached, or in omelets. If you’re eating a varied diet, they’re an excellent staple.

  1. It’s true. When I can’t find an objective answer to a question or problem elsewhere I resort to one of the AI engines for reference. They are quite good at showing layered facts and / or probabilities. They also seem to respect weighty sources that in some cases contradict them. But I don’t want AI to completely take over the Internet so I seek out the ordinary means of information first and too. God help us not to get mesmerized or lazy.
