It is not good to have fan clubs praise you

It is, all the Saints say, better to work quietly, even as kind or critical stragglers find their way to you daily to at least ponder the great questions of our time, before our time is done.

In working this way we can constantly take serious stock of where we are, spiritually (it’s not always good news) and intellectually vis a vis the ever-emerging crises of our time, without being flattered or monied this way and that into unseen constraints and pressures which tie us up into the tightest knots. That way is bondage.

No, it is better to just keep pressing towards the goal. Towards Calvary*, though we often stumble on the Way. We must be able to hear Him.
