Islam and Our Grandchildren

If we meet a Muslim who is hungry we must try to feed him, if he is homeless, we must try to find him shelter; if a Muslim we know is emotionally or physically hurting, we must seek to tend to his wounds as a brother in Adam.

Immigration

Many of us in the West believe that immigration should be today as it was for our forebears: it should be measured, and it should rhyme with the traditional values and common law of the people who bequeathed these values to us. But traditional Islam cannot accept this in the long run and still remain consistent with itself. It will always seek Islamic ends, not Christian ends. Or wait for the time when this becomes possible.

So it is our grandchildren and great-grandchildren we must be concerned about.

On X it is reported,

“The Taliban have decreed that Afghan(1) women are forbidden to:

Go to high school or university
Work in the civil service
Attend a protest
Go abroad
Drive a car
Travel alone
Ride in a taxi
Speak in public
Speak loudly inside your house
Sing
Read the Quran aloud in public
Speak to a male doctor
Play sport
Go to the gym
Go to the park
Wear bright clothes
Wear high heels
Look at men they don’t know
Show their faces in public
Own a smartphone”

To say this would be a bad fit in the West is an understatement, of course. We musn’t put our future generations at risk or be naively persuaded by talk of ‘moderate Islamism’*. In time great trouble is likely to become possible. All we have to do is look at recent history in many of their own regions of the world —and use common sense.**

  • For a closer look at the roots of Islam and why extremism has so often followed in its wake even to the present day, often enough hurting even the many gentler souls within the religion, see the works of Robert Spencer and many others.  Christians too have produced extremist persons,  but this, when it has occurred, was to betray our roots in Jesus Christ; it is a contradiction and never manifests Him, as anyone who knows the Gospels can see. But Christian reform too can, and has, taken place many times, and such reforms seek to realign ourselves to Christ, and to restore His face manifestly in us.

(1) Notes on Sharia Application in 2025

Saudis

Saudi Arabia

Constitution (Basic Law) states: “Its constitution is the Qur’an and the Sunnah”; Sharia is the only source of law.

Full uncodified Sharia; hudud (e.g., stoning, amputation) still enforceable.

Iran
Constitution (Article 4): All laws must be based on Islamic criteria; ruled by Islamic jurists (Velayat-e Faqih).
Shia Ja’fari Sharia dominant; codified but fully Sharia-based.

Afghanistan (Taliban regime since 2021)
Taliban declare the country an Islamic Emirate governed solely by their interpretation of Sharia.
De facto full Sharia; hudud punishments reintroduced.

Yemen (Houthi-controlled north)
Large parts governed under Zaydi Shia Sharia; constitution still references Sharia as primary source. Mixed, but Sharia dominant in Houthi areas.

Mauritania
Constitution declares it an “Islamic Republic” and Sharia the sole source of law.
Criminal code includes hudud (though rarely fully applied).

Sudan (post-2021 coup)
Islam and Sharia declared sources of law; 2020 reforms partially rolled back under military rule.
Sharia-based personal/status laws remain; apostasy punishable until 2020.

Other countries (e.g., Pakistan, Maldives, Brunei) declare Sharia/Islam as a or the primary source of law, but operate hybrid systems with significant secular/civil codes.

Islamic Nations That Legally Require Women to Wear the Burka (or Niqab)

Only two countries currently impose a nationwide legal requirement for women to cover the face (burka or niqab):

Afghanistan (under Taliban rule since August 2021)
Decree issued in May 2022 by the Taliban’s Supreme Leader: Women must wear a burka (or at least a niqab) in public; face covering is mandatory. Male guardians can be punished for non-compliance.

Iran (since the 1979 Islamic Revolution)
Legally requires full hijab including covering hair and body; since 2022–2023 crackdown after Mahsa Amini’s death, authorities have enforced face-covering niqab/chador combinations in many government buildings, universities, and public spaces, though the nationwide law technically allows showing the face if hair and shape are covered. However, in practice, especially under the current hardline enforcement, open-face hijab is increasingly criminalized, and many women are forced to wear full chador or niqab-like coverings. Iran is therefore often counted as effectively requiring face covering in 2025, though the letter of the law is slightly less absolute than Afghanistan’s.

No other Muslim-majority country has a nationwide legal mandate for the burka/niqab in 2025. Saudi Arabia dropped its abaya requirement in 2019 and never legally required face covering (only strong social pressure under the former religious police).

* Ironically and tragically, Islamic extremism, like almost every kind of ideological trouble in the modern West, fattens itself here on the sour milk of Enlightenment egalitarian errors and deceit, leading to persecution, clashes and, often enough, apostasy from the truth of Christ.

** We must want to protect not only ourselves but future generations, our grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and our neighbors, against Sharia Jihadists who are hatched even by good faith “moderates” over time.

** The UK is Funding Cultural Chaos

Brit Leadership Presently Loses Common Sense

…it puts our children and grandchildren’s future at risk. “Staggering numbers,” “horrible cases,” of sexual abuse by immigrants occured in the UK between 1997 and 2013. Where was the government, the police and the courts over such a long period of time? Are we being told the truth about what’s going on there today?

This is not only about Elon Musk’s recent comments about “grooming” gangs. To say it is amounts to a red herring. It is about “the failure of the Liberal Order” and the failure of naive egalitarianism. And it goes well beyond sexual abuse. It is about the future of Western civilization and beyond.

People are equal by creation, but ideas cannot always be viewed as equal. Islamic ideas inevitably birth a culture which is very different from the traditional West, and unacceptable to most here. There is a very long history of trouble in many nations to call as witness. It has happened many, many times all over the world throughout history, where such ideas resurface in time in Jihadist forms, because such pernicious ideas tend, when hatched, to Jihadist extremism. And we cannot risk that again. We have our children’s future to think about.

Egalitarian liberalism, born of the likes of Jean Jacques Rousseau (1712-1778), amounts to naive or cynical idealism, egalitarianisn gone mad. We should treat all decent sojourners here with kindness. But we cannot cynically pretend that profoundly different cultures can co-exist on a permanent basis without careful watching.
