The Best Lies

Someone once said “the best lies are wrapped around a core of truth“. In our ubiquitous media environment today, where Smartphones and video presentations of every kind are the only game in town, Christians and all persons of good will, are warned that we must be discerning and vigilant like never before. Ours is a time of “signs and lying wonders” (2 Thess. 2:9).

Our Lord said, “Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.” — Mt. 7:15

When startling reports dominate the global news environment, truth is often a casualty in the spiritual warfare which we know exists, though it is sometimes difficult to discern. At other times we simply do not know what is really happening for certain.. We are so easily drawn into distractions or spiritual lethargy.

Though they sometimes tell us important truths, I for one cannot completely trust any of the loud click-baiting newsmakers online,  We need enlightened discernment. That can only come if His Word dwells within us.

Thus saith the Lord: Cursed be the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arm, and whose heart departeth from the Lord.”— Jeremiah 17:5

“Sanctify them through Thy Truth,” Jesus prayed during His time on earth  …  “Thy word is Truth,” He taught” — Jn. 17:17

“Let God be true and every man a liar”. —Rom. 3:4.

We need constant reference to His Word today. If we stay away from this Word long enough we morph into something brute.  We don’t have to look far to see the truth of what we could become in 2025-26. We need our very minds to be sanctified. Only His Word and His Sacraments can renew that.

“…and put on the new nature, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness”

God help us as He did St. Paul:
