CWR: “Despite calls from abuse victims and their advocates to stop displaying artwork by the disgraced former Jesuit priest Father Marko Ivan Rupnik, the Vatican has again used one of the artist’s images to illustrate an online article.
In addition … a video was published by Argentine public TV channel Canal de la Cuidad that shows a Rupnik image hanging in Pope Francis’ personal apartment inside the Vatican’s Santa Marta residence.
On the Vatican website, the Holy See’s communications department used a picture of a Rupnik mosaic of the dormition of Mary at the top of an article for the solemnity of the Assumption of Mary on Aug. 15.
Accused of sexually abusing women, Rupnik is currently under investigation by the Vatican’s doctrinal office after Pope Francis waived a statute of limitations.

“As a survivor of clerical abuse, I am both outraged and heartbroken by the Vatican’s continued use of artwork by Fr. Marko Rupnik, a known sexual offender whose exploits are under investigation. Despite calls from survivors, clergy, and even Cardinal Sean O’Malley, head of the Pontifical Commission for the Protection of Minors, urging that all Roman Curia discontinue the use of Rupnik’s art, the Vatican has chosen to once again showcase his work on their website, this time on the Feast of the Assumption. This action is a profound betrayal to survivors and to the entire Church.
…The Vatican’s continued use of Fr. Marko Rupnik’s artwork isn’t just tone-deaf—it’s something far worse. It’s a blatant and calculated affront to survivors and anyone who demands transparency and integrity from the Church.
The use of artwork depicting the Blessed Mother, created by a sexual offender, is horrific in the extreme…

Note: All manner of sins without exception will be forgiven to any repentant sinner, the Gospel teaches. What is at issue here is scandal, the very face of the Church’s proclamation of the Gospel with its call to change and penance. It sends the wrong message to the whole world and subjects the Church to justifiable derision.
