Has Vance betrayed his his Pro-Life Principles? I certainly don’t want to rain on anyone’s parade, but obviously this is no small matter for Catholics. One cannot play Pontius Pilate to the crowds and hedge ones bets when it comes to the unborn, not if one wishes to have clean hands. J.D. Vance needs to look more deeply into his soul. His boss too (See link below). Governing has to do with a lot more than economics and Spectacle.
Abortion Was A Non-Topic At The RNC
Lydia O’Connor at HuffPost, writes:
“Abortion” was something of a dirty word at this year’s Republican National Convention, despite it being one of the biggest issues of the 2024 election and something the GOP has long fought to restrict.
None of the convention’s speakers made it a central point of their speeches. Compare that to the 2020 RNC, when the word “abortion” was uttered nearly 20 times in a single night. That year, the party also featured anti-abortion activists as speakers, who called the election a choice between “radical anti-life activists and the most pro-life president we have ever had.” — More
J.D. Vance
Life News. “… Earlier this month, Vance gave an interview to ABC’s Meet the Press during which host Kristen Welker grilled him on Project 2025 and the recent U.S. Supreme Court case dealing with mifepristone, the drug frequently used to end unborn children’s lives. First, he made this seemingly ill-informed comment: “The Supreme Court made a decision saying that the American people should have access to that medication [mifepristone], Donald Trump has supported that opinion, I support that opinion. I think it is important to say that we actually have to have an important conversation in this country about what our abortion policy should be.”
It should be noted that in FDA v. Alliance for Hippocratic Medicine, the court did not conclude that mifepristone should be widely accessible. It merely concluded that the Texas doctors didn’t have sufficient legal standing to make the argument they were making. Whether mifepristone should be widely accessible is still up for debate.
But then Welker pressed him on it and asked if he supported “mifepristone being accessible.” Vance replied: “Yes, Kristen, I do,” before redirecting the conversation to Project 2025…
… Mifepristone is an abortive drug that effectively starves the unborn child of nutrients in his mother’s womb. It’s an absolutely horrific way to die, and it’s unconscionable to argue that doctors should be allowed to prescribe it under any conditions …” [LifeNews.com]
