2023 – 2024. Trump’s Head Spinning Moral Schizophrenia

Updated below. In his recent debate with Joe Biden, Donald Trump said, “We brought it back to the states and the country is now getting back together,” Trump said. Repeatedly, he said that “everyone” supported repealing Roe.

But less than a year ago (2023) Donald Trump Called a 6-Week Abortion Ban a ‘Terrible Mistake’. Is abortion merely a political issue for Trump? It would seem so. Biden is certainly worse, but Mr. Trump has been double-speaking for a long time. Some say he’s hedging. But…

And his V.P. pick, J.D. Vance, who is said to have once advocated a national abortion ban on abortion, in a recent interview said he approved keeping mifepristone, an horrific abortion pill, available to women who wanted it.

Recap

CNA: Pro-life leaders condemned President Donald Trump for calling a six-week abortion ban a “terrible mistake” during a Saturday NBC interview.

Trump made the comments in reference to Florida’s six-week Heartbeat Protection Act abortion ban signed by his chief opponent in the 2024 Republican presidential primary, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis.

During Trump’s more-than-hourlong interview with Kristen Welker, he said: “DeSantis is willing to sign a five-week and six-week ban,” and “I think what he did was a terrible thing and a terrible mistake.”

…”Lila Rose, founder of the pro-life group Live Action and a prominent Catholic and pro-lifer, called Trump’s take “pathetic and unacceptable.”

“Trump is actively attacking the very pro-life laws made possible by Roe’s overturning,” Rose said Sunday on X.

“Heartbeat [six-week] laws have saved thousands of babies,” she posted. “But Trump wants to compromise on babies’ lives so pro-abort Dems ‘like him.’”

Update: April 12, 2024. Trump’s Big Abortion Announcement Is a Big Disappointment

“… While the Vatican’s document ‘Dignitas Infinita’ is morally coherent, the Republican presidential candidate’s abortion-related announcement, issued the same day, was anything but. The good news is that the Vatican’s declaration, titled Dignitas Infinita, is a robust reiteration of the Church’s consistent teaching against abortion, euthanasia, assisted suicide, surrogacy, poverty, gender ideology and other grave attacks on human dignity.

The bad news, in the view of many in the pro-life movement, is that Trump revealed he doesn’t favor a federal abortion ban, preferring to have individual states pass their own laws… Continue
