Despite the attempts on the part of recent popes like John Paul II and Benedict XVI* to correct the situation, not a few Protestants are, most traditional Catholics have long known, more biblically literate and theologically coherent today (despite the exegetical errors of Luther, Zwingli, Calvin and the rest), more traditional, and more empiric in their approaches to both science and modern apologetics than many “Catholic” “theologians” who have abandoned the Catholic biblical hermeneutic in order to appear hip, tossing out Scripture in favor of the likes of Bultmann, Tillich, Teilhard, Kung, etc.
Even young Evangelicals, despite some Reformation prejudices, can often see grave problems of great consequence too often cynically passed over by too many Catholic PhD’s, many of whom can be counted on to mock biblical teachings and embrace wild fashionable speculations and wishful projections.

* Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger (later Pope Benedict XVI), for example, had a great respect for the conservative Evangelical philosopher-theologian Carl F.H. Henry, citing him favorably in various works in footnotes. At the same time he criticized Catholics like Karl Rahner for increasingly separating theology from foundational biblical exegesis. And Progressive ghost-writers for Pope Francis, it would appear, have all but abandoned sound traditional biblical exegesis in favor of a more promiscuous eisegesis, i e., reading personal agendas into the biblical texts.
“Who am I? Where have I come from and where am I going? Why is there evil? What is there after this life?” ( Pope John Paul II, Ad Limina Address of October 24, 1998, n. 5).
